Multi-Brand Global Retailer Secures Supplier & Consumer Data Sharing Across Geographies
Challenge
A multi-billion-dollar, multi-brand apparel retailer with more than 3,000 company-owned stores and 80,000 employees needed a secure, reliable, and brand-safe way to share sensitive data with suppliers, consumers, and partners worldwide. An upcoming fashion show required transferring 2TB of media files out of China in 24 hours — a region known for blocking services like Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive. At the same time, GDPR required a secure way to fulfill consumer subject access requests without creating new exposure.
The retailer's existing use of Box (1,500 users, $400,000/year) offered no better reliability in China, no branding, and no logging for the 57% of files being shared anonymously — while 20 petabytes of already-licensed OneDrive storage sat underused.
Solution
The retailer deployed eSHARE alongside Microsoft OneDrive: internal sharing stayed native to OneDrive, with a dedicated secure folder for highly sensitive files encrypted under keys the retailer alone controls. All external sharing moved to eSHARE, fully branded under the retailer's own subdomain, logos, and colors rather than a third-party domain.
Results
- Fashion show media files moved out of China without the link-blocking that had plagued Box and OneDrive alone, enabling concurrent social media promotion and on-time international broadcast
- GDPR subject access requests are now fulfilled via encrypted, passcode-protected OneDrive links — with no new account creation and no new GDPR exposure
- The retailer eliminated redundant spend on third-party storage while fully leveraging its existing Microsoft 365 investment
